Parks and Rec
Shawnna and Garin attended a meeting with the new parks and rec board last night. They would like a representative from SLL to attend the bi-monthly meetings. The person must live inside the city limits. The parks and rec board oversee the new soccer fields at Carrie Blake Park.
Umpire in Chief
Randy Perry spoke with us about getting umpires. He suggested having information for umpires at registration dates. He also feels that all managers & coaches must attend an umpire clinic so they understand what an umpire does. We can have umpire clinics locally and send individuals to an out of town more in-depth clinic (Bremerton). High school students can volunteer for their community service hours. We will post an umpire in the equipment shed that lists what an umpire needs. This will hopefully help get our clickers turned back in.
DISTRICT MEETINGS:
Garin attended the last meeting in December…
· He shared that umpires in chief for District 2 will come to Sequim to do training.
· He had information about Tacoma Rainer’s kid’s day. He will give the information to Betty.
· Safety Plan is due February 1, 2012
· March 10, 2012 will be the umpire training day.
· New national rules… Boys now have the 3rd strike dropped ball.
· Pat Ryan would like a contact list for all board members.
· Meetings are the 1st Wednesday of the month.
Banners
Sequim Little League 2012 registration banners will be hung up across from Greywolf, Helen Haller, across the road near Costco and at Sequim Shoe Repair. Bobbi will make a flyer to be hung up around Sequim. Randy will contact Sequim Gazette. Shawnna will take banners to Tom to update. Everyone is asked to put a notice on their Facebook pages.
Try Outs
Player agents are encouraged to start getting their help lined-up for try outs.
Fees
Fees will be the same as last year. $50.00 T-ball, $75.00 Prep Minors, Majors, Juniors. 3 or more Family Cap of $150.00.
Fields
Fields will need to be ready to go by February 4 for try-outs. There is no water because it has been shut off due to the water leak. The city is supposed to fix this. All-Around fencing is going to fix the gates and fencing around the park. Our drive ways (pot holes) need to be fixed.
Draft Procedures
Jerry asked about the draft process for majors and having to re-draft teams each year. He asked if there was a possibility to keep existing teams this year and just filling your empty spots on the team. Managers can discuss this closer to the date. We can decide to keep teams or re-draft.

IRS Report Past taxes had not been filed on time. Bobbi and Shawnna were able to get penalties removed and we are in good standings now. We have already filed our taxes for 2011. It is important that when the current treasurer resigns that the next treasurer knows how important it is to file taxes.
Equipment There is still equipment that has not been turned in from last season (about 6 – 7 teams). Betty will email an announcement that asks that all equipment be turned in at Sequim Shoe Repair.
NEW BUSINESS
Girls Divisions It is anticipated that numbers for girls will be low this season. We are all encouraged to talk to girls and encourage them to play. A high school fast pitch coach is willing to have high school players go to the middle school and elementary schools to talk to girls about playing Sequim Little League.
Coaching Clinic New rule: All new managers & coaches need to attend the District 2 coaching clinic offered before the season starts.

Skill Development Clinics This season it has been suggested that before try-outs we offer skill development clinics to prepare players for try-outs. Many past managers have expressed interest in helping with this. More information about this will come.
Water Leak Our water has been turned off because we have a water leak near Lotito Field. Ray says he can look at it and see if it is an easy fix. If he can’t do it, then he will connect with Dan and they will get it fixed.
Lap Top for Information Officer There was a motion to purchase a lap top that the information officer could use to send out bulk emails, update our web site and store league information. It would be property of Sequim Little League. Motion made by Bobbi, 2nd by Tina, Motion passed.
Uniforms Tom from Sign Store called and he has purchased all the art work from major leagues. We want to keep the name of the sponsor on shirts. Maybe we could use the art work for hats. We saved over half the cost last season by using sponsor names on uniforms.
Columbia Bank- Equipment Shed They have contacted us because they would like to sponsor something for Sequim Little League. We are getting bids to build a new equipment shed. Once bids are in, we will submit them to Columbia Bank. If anyone knows of anyone else that would like to help sponsor a new shed please let Shawnna know.

Sequim Little League October 6th Meeting Minutes
In Attendance: Shawnna Rigg, Dan Rigg, Bill Bates, Bobbi Stringer, Kristi Hart, Garin Williams, Ray Vaara
Champion Field – We will be having a work day!! Blake’s has donated the soil, we just need to pay for truck time. Do you know anyone that has a truck to haul??? We are going to get a good 3 – 4” foundation of the good soil, like we have on Lotito field. We use the excess soil to fill holes on the other fields. Let’s get Champion Field done so we can use it this year!!
Registrations and Tryouts – We decided to do registration and tryouts the same day, just like last year. Kristi recommended having the kids tryout for longer, so we can get a better understanding of the kids skills. All boys and girls little league age 8 and up will do skills assessments this year. We will be doing Juniors this year age 13-14. If a 12 yr old has played Majors before, they may be drafted to Juniors. It was discussed to not have 15-16 yr olds this year, due to most of the girls this age playing high school ball and it isn’t helping our numbers. We need more kids!!!
Coaching – Coaches should attend the free coaching clinics, especially if they are new. New coaches really shouldn’t be coaching Majors. We need to get our Majors hyped up so they are all excited about playing baseball, so when they leave they will go play Junior Babe Ruth!!
Josh Washburn sent a message to Shawnna about teaching basics to all players. We talked about having the coaches get together and have clinics before tryouts and practices begin to get the kids ready for the season. We need to commit however and not just talk about doing it and dropping the ball. Everyone thought it was a good idea to have some clinics prior to the season starting official practices to build fundamentals.
Maintenance – We need to paint the yellow canvases on all the fences. Chris offered to do some work on the fields in exchange for a sponsorship. The bases on the t-balls fields were discussed, however it’s about $200 a field to replace the bases. The pitching machines were also discussed, they no longer make urethane wheels to replace on our pitching machines. Do we buy new ones?? A suggestion was made to see if they could be found on e-bay or on-line. We will discuss what we have found on-line at our next meeting. A suggestion was made to have Dan, Bill and Ray show the coaches how to properly use the pitching machines and also how to rake the fields. Raking the fields was not being done after being played on by some teams. A suggestion was to do this at the MANDATORY MANAGER/COACHES MEETING.
2011 Financial Review – We made a net profit of $11,153. We saved over $6,000 this year by switching our uniforms. The new board decided to keep the uniforms the same with the exception of the caps. We need to get better caps this year. The concession stand sales were down this year from last. Bobbi offered to look at some of our prices to see if anything could be raised a little since the cost of goods is increasing. A suggestion was also made to have more games on Saturdays and possibly consolidate some on the weekdays, so we have more games on specific days and possibly a day for practices and make up games. We also had a lot of days that games were cancelled due to rain plus registration numbers were also down.
City and Lease Agreement – The city was much more cooperative this season. They have extended our agreement. The city boarded the score booths and we changed the locks to avoid the druggies and homeless. Shawnna’s plan is to keep a good relationship going with the city for the benefit of SLL.
The following are board members for the 2012 Season: Dan Rigg, Shawnna Rigg, Bill Bates, Betty Bates, Melanie Bentz, Kristi Hart, Bobbi Stringer, Cathy Bourm, Tina Sparks, Garin Williams, Ray Vaara, Joshua Washburn and Thor Larsen. Names in red say I…. (just need official confirmation as they did not attend.)
The following positions were voted in at the meeting:
President – Shawnna Rigg
Vice President – Garin Williams
Treasurer – Bobbi Stringer
Boys Player Agent – Kristi Hart
Equipment Manager – Dan Rigg
Rules Chairman/ Scheduling/ Mowing – Bill Bates
Information Officer – Betty Bates
The following positions are still open: Secretary, Safety Officer, Girls Player Agent, Sponsorship, Concessions, Umpire in Chief, Registration, Fundraising, and Events Coordinator. If you are interested in any of these positions, please contact Shawnna.
Our next board meeting will be held the 2nd Thursday of November, the 10th at 7pm in the Little League boardroom.
